Plan2Live, AbleSet, Prime and Playback: what does each one do?
The short answer
They do different jobs. Plan2Live builds an Ableton Live set from your setlist and your stems, before the show. AbleSet controls an Ableton Live set during the show. Loop Community Prime and MultiTracks Playback are apps that play your tracks themselves, on a Mac, an iPad or an iPhone.
So the question is less which one is best, and more which job you need done.
What each one does
From each maker's own page, checked on October 13, 2026.
Plan2Live
- What it's for
- A Mac app that builds an Ableton Live set from your setlist (typed in, or imported from Planning Center) and your own stems: the songs in order, each with its key, tempo and time signature, its stems on tracks, and section markers.
- During the show
- It doesn't play the set. You run it in Ableton Live, like a set you made yourself.
- Runs on
- Mac (macOS 14.6 or later), with Ableton Live Standard or Suite (Live 12 recommended).

AbleSet
- What it's for
- In its maker's words, "the easiest way to manage and control your Ableton Live Set". Its page says it uses the cues of your Ableton project to create your setlist.
- During the show
- It controls your Ableton Live set, from a browser on any device on the same network as your computer.
- Runs on
- Downloads for macOS and Windows, used from a browser.

Loop Community Prime
- What it's for
- A multitrack app from Loop Community. Its page says you can crossfade and loop on demand, jump song sections, and change tempos and song keys, with separate outputs for tracks and for click and cues.
- During the show
- It plays your tracks, click and cues itself.
- Runs on
- Mac, iPad and iPhone.

MultiTracks Playback
- What it's for

- During the show
- It plays your tracks and click itself.

- iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Which job do you need done?
- You want a set in Ableton Live, built from your setlist and stems, without building it by hand: Plan2Live.
- You already run your show from an Ableton Live set and want to control it on stage: AbleSet. Plan2Live's Markers menu has two AbleSet marker styles. We haven't tested these sets in AbleSet ourselves yet.
- You'd rather play tracks from an app on an iPad, an iPhone or a Mac: Prime or Playback.
