Frequently Asked Questions

You type your setlist into Plan2Live, or import it from Planning Center if your team uses it. Point the app at the folders where your stems live, and it builds an Ableton Live set you can open: the songs in order, each with its own key, tempo and time signature, your stems on the set's tracks, and section markers. The section names come from spoken cues on your Guide track or from Planning Center; without either, the markers are numbered or placeholders you can rename in Live. Instead of rebuilding your session from scratch, you build your set in the app and click Generate.

No. Plan2Live does not supply stems. The app reads the Stems Libraries you already have on your computer and maps them into the generated Ableton set. You bring your own stems; Plan2Live handles the layout and routing.

No. Plan2Live is a session-generation tool, not a stems platform or playback player. It works alongside whatever stems source you already use. If you license stems from MultiTracks or Loop Community, or run tracks through Playback, Plan2Live sits upstream of that — it builds the Ableton set so you have less setup work before rehearsal or showtime.

Live 12 is recommended, and Custom Templates need Live 12. Use Live Standard or Suite. Live Intro allows 16 audio and MIDI tracks and Live Lite allows 8, and Plan2Live's built-in Live 12 template has 22, so Intro and Lite are too small for it.

No. Planning Center import is supported, but it is not required. You can also build a set manually inside Plan2Live.

You make a Personal Access Token in Planning Center (at api.planningcenteronline.com/oauth/applications), then paste its App ID and Secret into Plan2Live once. The app then lists your services and plans, and imports the songs of the plan you pick. The Manual has the steps. You can also type your setlist instead.

No. Your audio files never leave your computer. Plan2Live reads your Stems Libraries on your Mac and copies the stems each set uses into that set's project folder. No audio data is uploaded to any server.

Plan2Live stores the Planning Center connection details you set up in the app locally on your Mac. The app will guide you through the Planning Center connection steps, and manual set building is also available if you do not use Planning Center.

We keep your account email and name, your plan and how many builds you have used. Our analytics also see how the app and website are used: which features you use, whether each build worked, and the song titles, keys, tempos and time signatures in the sets you build (that is how we find out which songs fail). They know you by your account ID, not your name or email (app versions before build 67 still send those until you update, and older records from them can still carry them), and work out your approximate location (city and country) from your IP address. We don't sell your data, and we don't record your screen. The app never sends us your audio files, your Ableton sets or templates, your Planning Center login, or the names of your files and folders. In the app, you can turn off Share usage analytics under Settings, Privacy & Diagnostics. See the Privacy Policy for the full list.

Stems Libraries are the folders on your computer where your song stem files live. You point the app to one or more Stems Libraries, and it searches those folders when building your set. Each song should have its own folder, named after the song (Song Title - Key - BPM works best), so the app can match it to the correct song in your set.

Yes. Plan2Live matches each song in your set to a folder by the song's title, so name the folder after the song and spell the title the way your setlist does. Song Title - Key - BPM works best (for example, Firm Foundation - G - 98bpm). The key and BPM are optional: they help the app choose when you keep the same song in more than one folder. Parentheses and brackets are fine. If the app is not sure which folder belongs to a song, it asks you. See the Manual for more examples.

Guide Analysis Labels are markers that Plan2Live places in your Ableton set based on the song's guide track. When the guide track speaks the section names, the markers carry them — intro, verse, chorus, bridge, outro, and so on — so your session is navigable from the moment you open it. Without spoken cues, the markers are placeholders you can rename. Guide Analysis Labels are available on every plan, including Free.

For a set imported from Planning Center, you can name the section markers after the song's arrangement sections in Planning Center instead of the Guide's spoken cues: choose Planning Center Labels in the app's Options. This means the section names your team uses in Planning Center show up in Ableton without typing them again.

Premium is coming later. It isn't on sale yet, and it has no price yet. You don't have to wait for it to use Custom Templates: they are out now as a beta, open on every plan.

Yes. The Free plan gives you 2 free builds per account. They don't reset each month and they don't expire. No credit card required — just download and build. If you need more builds, you can upgrade at any time.

Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account page, or in the app from version 2.8.3 (Settings → Account & Billing → Cancel Subscription…). Your plan stays active through the end of the current billing period, then reverts to Free. No cancellation fees.
